Its roughly been a life goal for about 4 years to run in a 5K. This past weekend I finally did just that. It was a fun experience, one that I look forward to repeating.

Chad and I ran in a local (Columbia, MD) 5K that was sponsored by many of the companies that work in our industry.

After showing up about an hour before race time, getting my bib and time chip, there was ample time to stretch and get ready for the race. Eggspectations in Columbia catered the event, but we both held off until post-race to eat anything. About 8:55 we all lined up for the start of the race.

Right on the dot, at 9:00 the race started. I had my headphones to help me keep pace, and not get bored while I was out there running. Through the first mile my split was around 10 minutes. Then the second mile it was 24 minutes. I had slowed down considerably from the first mile, but as a personal matter pride, I hadn't walked at all.

Then the mile 3 marker finally came and I sprinted the final .1 miles to the end. I finished the race with a time of 36 minutes 41 seconds. I'm very happy with the time, and definitely look forward to running more races and getting faster. New life goal - run a 10K. Personally I'm thinking the planned 10K across the Bay Bridge might be pretty cool.
