Over the weekend, Jenn and I did a little project to remove the pond from our backyard. There have been good times with the pond, such as having multiple very large coy fish swimming about, and there have been bad times. Such as when the fish get eaten by mysterious creatures and then the pond fills with algae and leaves and then smells. So with the attempted sale of the house and the direct possibility of renting the house, we decided to remove the pond.

After first pulling out about 148 gallons of pond water (all smelling awful of course), I took the pond out of the ground and we started to clean up. We cleaned up all the dead leaves and grass, and then dug up the one grass plant that was in the corner. From there we put in 1240 pounds of dirt (thats 31 bags from the Depot) into the hole and smoothed it out. We moved the hosta plants that we have and re-planted them within these new confines. I had 8 plants, I split 1 into two and then planted two more. So one of Jenn's coworkers is the new owner of 5 well growing hosta plants. We left the torch lilies and the other flower plant in place and then repurposed the stones we already had.

What you see here is the new backyard corner. Hopefully we'll be lucky enough to be able to grow some grass, and it will be looking awesome by mid May or so. This of course comes down to keeping Max away from it long enough to let some grass grow! Enjoy!

It looks nice and I know it was a lot of hard work.
