I don't usually post more than once a day, but when I read this article I felt the need to share it. Everyone knows how I feel about Comcast, but in case you don't know - I hate Comcast. They suck. They are a horrible company, with awful service, horrible customer service, and they are always out to screw their customers.

That being said, Comcast seems like an angel when compared to Time Warner Cable (TWC). Recently TWC wanted to institute bandwidth caps in select locations to test out new plans. For those unaware, a bandwidth cap means that once you reach their artificial threshold you will be required to pay a premium for additional bandwidth. Its just like cell phones with their minutes plan. You pay say $40 for 400 minutes, and then 10 cents a minute for each minute over. In this case, you would pay, $15 for 1GB a month, and then more for each GB over you go.

For the record here, Comcast has instituted a cap themselves, back last fall. They put a cap of 250GB/month for users, which personally I'm fine with. I think you could watch plenty of online tv, download music and not reach that limit. However, TWC wants to put up caps of 1GB/month! Ridiculous.

Now to today's story. There is apparently a town in North Carolina that created their own broadband and cable package. They are doing so not for profit, therefore they are able to offer a better tier of service and speed, for cheaper than TWC can provide in that location. TWC's response to this is that its unfair. Because the community isn't looking to turn a profit, TWC is arguing that they cannot compete in the market. So what do they do? They are lobbying the state to create legislation to outlaw those types of small community owned business. This is absolutely ridiculous!

Just be sure to read the article I linked at the top for yourself. It just absolutely nuts that a huge company like TWC would think that they can lobby the government so that they can turn a profit. Enjoy!
